Re: Obedience !
congratulation whit your obedience
I love to work whit my dogs.
This some I took the Bronze test whit my mini and we did very well but he was still young and we did´t pass but it was a good exercise I plan to go the next time there is a bronze test here in Iceland.
And if I can brag a little.. I took the test whit Dakota (my Giant) and we scored 145.5 points (out of 180) and we were the highest in that test
Earlier I went whit Helja (rottie) and she scored 174.5 point (out of180) and was highest in that test And that is also the highest score in Iceland

The "Bronztest" is the obedience test here in Iceland.. It´s just the basic obedience. It has 8 exersises and they are.
You can see a video of my and Dakota in the "bronzetest" here.

Re: Obedience !
Hello,
congratulations for the results!
I like so much the obedience but at us isn't this sport.
But.... we are going to Austria and we visit the competitions in this country since 2 years.
It's very interesting the difference in the exercises in different countries.
What levels are in different country?
In Austria are 3 Levels, GH 1, 2 and 3 (this is the international, FCI level).

Re: Obedience !
I did obedience for many years with my middle schnauzers, but they liked Agility more. And now I am for years on the Agility.
Many Greetings Mieke.

One of my puppies -Xebec Beckham - was passing Obidience test in Germany and has BH title.
He is also *Deutschenvizemeister im Hindernisslauf*. I am not strong in local sports, its kind of running.

Re: Obedience !
I do not understand this bronzetest is it an official test ? Is it done in other countries ?
Sorry I am so strict with rules and regulations that are sett by FCI
It seems to be very small even smaller test then BH is that right or do I misunderstand something here ? But congratulation with your results.

I´m sorry I dont understand. Offical test for what??Cornish Rex wrote:I do not understand this bronzetest is it an official test ? Is it done in other countries ?
This is just the BASIC obedience test we have here in Iceland. We have "bronze" "obedience class 1" and hopefully soon "obedience classe 2, 3 and Elite". But the Icelandci Kennel klub here in Iceland hasn´t held a test in Obedience 1 in few years because there hasn´t been sufficient participation. I have been waiting for 3 years now to go with elja and 2 years to go with Dakota and I´m still waiting.
I dont know if I should bee braging about it, because is it really sad. But Dakota is the only Giant Schnauzer in Iceland to have finished the bronztest.. realy sad that the others that have taken the test have not finished. And some have taken the test more than ones.

Re: Obedience !
By offical test I mean is it approved by any other clubs is it an classification or not ? I know the IPO and that is in 3 parts why is not then the obedience taken out and the tracking instead of using this basic ?
I have browsed now the other nordic clubs and they have different one. Not it matter in anyway you are good with your dogs that I can see. Just curious about this test always good to learn about things in life

Re: Obedience !
No the "bronz" test is not approved by other kennel Klubs.
I dont undersstand what you meen here..
The Icelandic Kennel club is a very young club. Only 35 years old. And in 1979 the Icelandic Kennel Club became an Associate Member of the FCI.
And for MANY years it was banned to have dogs in Reykjavik (the capital) and in the year 2006-7 the ban was lifted.
In 1991 we finally had a quarantine station and were alloud to ipmort dogs to Iceland. Therefor working breeds are realy young in Iceland.

Re: Obedience !
That was an interesting insite into how new things are in Iceland. Coming from a country that has such a long history of dogs, it is easy to forget how different it can be for others.

Marlee, my mini schnauzer is as you say 'quick learner' and I just know she can read my mind.

Re: Obedience !
A very nice-working dog!
Some *very* interesting exercises, and at least one a bit strange. Why is the dog allowed to see the articles put down, but the handler is not? Seems like one would want the dog to not see where they were placed.... it shouldn't matter to the handler.
And what is the point of having the "judge"/assistant give the hand signal directions with his back turned to the dog and the handler?
Here, the dog returns to the handler and sits in front, before being told to return to heel position. More opportunity for point deductions!

Re: Obedience !
Thank you for posting that video, very interesting to see how obedience tests are done in different countries.
We also have our dogs return to the front in a 'present' position before sending them to 'finish'. Our retrieves do not include a jump. Another thing that is interesting, over here we get our dogs to work 'on the leg' so we don't have that gap between dog and handler
Can I ask, at one time the steward places a few items close together on the ground and the dog returns with what looks like a white bone or was it a dumbell? What are the other items he placed on the ground?

Re: Obedience !
Hi,
I try to answer but I don't know so much english, sorry.
This exercises are on 2 level (out of 3) in Austria, the third is the FCI internat. regulation can you see here: http://www.fci.be/uploaded_files/Obedience_EN.doc
In FCI competition can make all variations by coming it, dog can sit in front of the handler or come at once next to leg. It's more variations.
At scent and retrieve exercise have to turn, so the handler don't know which the right wood with handler's smell. The man can't help for the dog. Here are more little woods, one was at me and the another 3 were sterile.
At distant controll show the assistant for the handler which and when have to make the following exercise for the dog. He don't see the dog, so he can't help. He can use a board too.
Did I answer all?
