Hello dear schnauzer lovers.
I just wanted to post this interesting topic, as this is new for me in my breed here.
Well there is a puppy 4 months old that had his "set" of testicals at 8 weeks old, but then one is popping up all of a sudden, and some days is down!!!.
As ive never heard of this before, i just wanted to open this Topic for everyone to comment if you would pleas.

Can you tell me if this is common in our breed, and how does this inheritate

What is your expiriance?

Thank you:)

This is not as common in schnauzers as it is in some breeds like shelties, but once the testicle gets too large to pass through the muscular ring, it will either remain UP.... or DOWN, depending where it was on that day. In shelties here, they say to wait until the dog is one year to see whether the testicle will remain down (or come back down). Personally, I think breeding these dogs just makes the problem worse; I would place the dog as a pet. If a dog should end up with only one testicle, it should be neutered as there is a greater chance for cancer in the retained testicle.

studies have been made in france with 2 brothers (several studies and with differents breeds), one is ok and the other has just one testicle. The 2 brothers has made the same mating with the same females and the result is the one teticle's male has product the same number of ok dogs and abnormal dogs as his brother ... so ?
if a mariage gave one male with one testicle what we must do ?

Somewhere many years ago, I heard/read that this problem can be passed along by the BITCH.

Cryptorchidism

Scroll down toward the bottom of the page (to the questions).

More: (again, scroll down) http://www.pet-informed-veterinary-advice-online.com/cryptorchidism.html

They are saying this is autosomal recessive, and BOTH parents carry the gene for it.

The other testes might not descend. This is a condition called Cryptorchidism. This can also happen to humans especially those who are using steroids. I don't think it's normal with a giant schnauzer dog.
